Most of these works are on view because of two people: Chester and Maud Dale. Long before Modigliani became a recognized name, Chester and Maud believed in him. They collected his paintings and sculptures at a time when critics dismissed them. Maud Dale was an especially tireless advocate for Modigliani’s work. In the early 1900s, she organize
